For Immediate Release – Over 900 riders are expected to roll into Fitchburg, Massachusetts for the 44th Annual Fitchburg Longsjo Classic, one of the oldest and most prestigious pro/am bicycling competitions in the United States.
The four-day event which begins June 26th and runs through June 29th will host riders in eight different categories including Women’s Pro/1/2 and Men’s Pro/1/2. This year $33,000 in prize money will be awarded. Racers in all categories including Men 3, Women 3, Men 4, Women 4, Masters 35+, and Juniors are encouraged to register early to secure a spot. The deadline for registration is June 20, 2003.
According to Race Director Ray Wolejko, registrations this year are well ahead of last year. “As of this week, we have 100 more registered riders than last year. We are encouraging riders to register early if they want to be guaranteed a spot in their category.”
As the oldest pro/am bicycling race in North America, it honors the memory of Arthur Longsjo, the nation’s first dual Olympian and Fitchburg, Massachusetts native, who is a member of the Cycling Hall of Fame and Speed Skating Hall of Fame.
Registration forms are available online at www.longsjo.com.
